It’s Time for the “Find the Edge” Challenge

Yes this picture is of a real wrist band. I’m wearing one now.

I’ve been doing a lot of listening to various videos on YouTube from people like Eric Thomas, Les Brown, Tony Robbins, Earl Nightingale, Simon Sinek, Mel Robbins, David Goggins, and many, many, many others (apologies for all the names I left out). Some common themes are goal setting, finding the “why” for those goals (thank you E.T. and a few others), keeping them front and center in your mind, practicing the fundamentals every day (thank you Tony R.) and deciding that it’s time to stop with the excuses and get after it (several). Get up and grind (E.T.). Stop being a “volunteer victim” (Les B.).

And on and on. Far too many great points to list — go listen for yourself. Turn off the stupid news entertainment like CNN and Fox. Ignore Trump. Ignore distractions (= excuses). Get focused. Get going.

A few speakers talked about digging into the core reasons why you want what you want and asking if you’re willing to pay the price. What I would like to be able to do is look in the mirror and say that the person I see is someone who:

  • is a disciplined person.
  • works out every day.
  • stays in control.
  • never conforms.
  • has a good diet.
  • is a risk taker.
  • lives a minimalist lifestyle.
  • helps people.
  • ignores other people’s negativity.
  • gets shit done.
  • lets results do the talking.
  • is never a victim.
  • never wastes time.
  • never makes excuses.
  • always pushes the edge.
  • never loses focus.
  • doesn’t take shit from anyone.
  • challenges the status quo.
  • avoids the “comfort zone.”
  • is a daily writer/blogger.
  • has a “no days off” mindset.
  • stays on the right/correct side.
  • goes for the adventure.

There it is. OK world — time for you all to hold me accountable. Time for “beast mode” (listen to the videos and you’ll find out what that is). Time to push past the limitations. Time to push right to the edge. Time to find where that edge is.

You up for the “find the edge” challenge? Are you willing to put it out there for all the world to see?

Want some help? You help me and I help you? It’s a deal.

I can hear it now. Here comes the flood of comments. Fine. Look at the list above: I ignore other people’s negativity. I can also hear the flood of excuses. Look at the list: risk taker, never conforms and never makes excuses.

And on and on.

To be specific, here are a few near-term goals:

  • Run six half-marathons between late September and mid-January (final race is the Key West Half) and run my best time.
  • Read 10 books in the same time period.
  • Get the startup prototype, website, etc., actually functional.
  • Complete some deep learning/neural network training that’s in-process (CNN’s RNN’s, etc.). Cool stuff, BTW.

Stop making excuses. Sit down and write your own “find the edge” list. Don’t hide it away. Put it out here. Where we can all help keep each other accountable and help each other push for what we know we can achieve. Then get after it.

What would it be like to look in the mirror, where you can’t hide who you really are, and truly admire who you see? To find out what you can really do?

Take the leap. Put it out here. Get going. Find the edge.
